| • Yes, the real free yearly credit report site is here. It's called “freecreditreport.com” and is
the place you can go to get your government-mandated free report once per year. Experian,
Transunion, and Equifax will offer you various service for a price as you are going through the
steps on their sites, but you are not automatically signed up for anything.
• This is a good site to check your credit. You can get a free credit report from Equifax once a
year through this site. If you want all three credit agency reports you have to pay 30 bucks.
• I recently reported how the freecreditreport.com home page is very misleading, causing visitors to
erroneously click on the logos of the three credit bureaus. This leads you away from the only site
authorized to provide the free annual credit report we are entitled to by law. Once you visit these
other sites, you see offers for "free" credit reports that are not what you intended or expected. If
you follow through, you give them your credit card and sign up for a "free" service that will result
in credit card charges. |
